About This Position

Avitide is heavily reliant on mass spectrometry and LC/MS plays an active role in shaping high-performance purification solutions for Avitide’s biopharmaceutical partners.  Avitide is establishing an opportunity for an LC/MS expert to take a scientific leadership role and become the primary resource for MS applications within Avitide. The role will involve developing and implementing new sophisticated MS based tools to improve the performance of affinity ligands.  Avitide seeks candidates who are highly self-motivated and can work in a collaborative fashion with other interdisciplinary team members in a fast-paced company that seeks to transform the downstream bioprocessing industry.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of PhD/MS preferably with 1+ years of industrial experience within a biopharmaceutical bioprocess research and development setting
  • Automating methods for MS data analysis and high throughput data extraction, e.g.
    • Scripting languages
    • Programming, coding
    • Database administration and interfacing
  • Principal expertise in LC/MS of biologics
    • Peptide mapping
    • MS/MS sequencing of peptides
    • MS based degradation studies of proteins and peptides
    • Peptide metabolomics
    • Trace analysis of peptides and proteins in biological samples
  • Experience in bioanalysis and assay technologies particularly analysis of finished biopharmaceuticals
  • Validation of LC/MS methods in a laboratory quality system
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to coordinate demands from multiple projects
  • Demonstrated history of strong hands-on ability, problem solving, and independent experimental design and execution

 Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide scientific leadership and domain expertise in the field of mass spectrometry within Avitide
    • Develop and then transfer methods and techniques to colleagues
  • Proactively seek collaborations with other Avitide scientists to develop LC/MS based methods to address their problems
  • Work with peptide chemists and protein engineers to diagnose degradation pathways of peptide and protein ligands
  • Performance of quantitative analytical assays in a timely manner
  • Implement and oversee appropriate quality assurance mechanisms

Desirable Skills:

  • Preparative HPLC purification
  • Protein or peptide design
  • Other bioanalytical techniques (e.g. ELISA, ForteBio or Biacore based biomolecular interaction analysis)
  • Experience with Waters Q-ToF and Acquity UPLC systems and software
